MUSIC BIZ

The PVPA music department takes a contemporary approach to music education in order to empower students to make music part of their lives. The music curriculum focuses on 3 major pillars of the music art form: instrumental and vocal performance techniques, cultural and historical understanding, and theoretical comprehension. Classes are structured to be accessible to students of all levels of musical ability. Students who engage in the music department will encounter multiple pathways to grow as musicians, whether they wish to practice music as a hobby or as a career.

Learn about our course offerings, the requirements for a music concentration, and our expectations of performers here. Listen to performances by our incredible ensembles here. Find information about when you can catch us at PVPA or in your neighborhood here.

Music department students have numerous performance opportunities throughout the school year. From bi-monthly open mic performances, to major department showcases, music students are continually called upon to share their talents at school events. Students who wish to push their musical abilities to a higher level can audition for our premier performing ensembles, and travel outside of PVPA to compete and perform at festivals and competitions. Our students have performed at the Berklee High School Jazz Festival, UMass High School Jazz Festival, Northampton Jazz Festival, Silver Chord Bowl, and NAfME All-District and All-state festivals. The PVPA music department welcomes all students who wish to develop stronger musical skills as part of their educational experience.
